A Last Few Words on Vines

how they

with strength

and force of will

climb through the ones

we've planted the world we tend

with their thorns and disguise

of leaves ever reaching for the sky

overwhelming

overtaking

understating

until the day

they smother

what's below

break the

trunks the

limbs the

hearts

of trees

we pull them out only

so they can return next summer

so we are left in winter with

the silence of unheeded lessons

how nothing living

remains the same

how temples monuments

and human dwellings

with their shallow anchors

in earth's foundations how

even the most aggressive vines

are not destined for forever
