Reflections
from the great outdoors
the curtained window
reflects enough daylight
to mirror the life that
happens beyond the house
for the imagined child
standing there outside
alone trying to see in
a solitary bird
crossing the face
of a drifting cloud
a swallowtail butterfly
with a torn wing
sipping nectar from a flower
and when make-believe play
is over and night descends
upon the unreal neighborhood
the panes for a moment
capture unannounced
to those sequestered
inside with their repeating
nightmares and dreams
the light
arriving the one time
from distant burning stars
