Reflections of Justice
late at
night the
city police
have stopped
across from
the sweltering
shelter crammed
on a first floor
just down from
the wilds of
lincoln park
there to
watch
blocking one lane
of j street
idling
next to
a beat-up van
appearing to be
held together
with red and white
bumper stickers
the blue spinning
lights of the
black-and-white
cruiser reflect
in the tinted windows
of an unmarked
suburban
as the beast
of an suv
pulls away
with its prey
into the
anonymity
of the
waiting
dark
