Rhymes
this careless beautiful morning
one world changing its attire
for the feast of being
soles bare against wet grass
wind rising for a few hours
moving through hidden places
a spirit tangling and untangling
leaves and stalks and flowers
a voice passing beyond
recalling later seasons
and seasons after that
the one world moves afoot
and then overhead the sun
*
a day will come when we
do not have to question anymore
if the relief of last night's rain
follows the dawn to life
*
be careful little soul
these rhymes
may make you
think i understood
something i don't
make you believe
my heart felt
something it won't
grokked more than these
few threadbare metaphors
*
the indigo bunting
where i last left her
deep in the high trees
overseeing the meadow
through her smooth veil
of blue feathers sings
as if her body was a vessel
for the joyful song of god
shows what it's like
to live each time
reminds us again
not to forget to take the gift
that is impossible to break
